Erik Darmstetter lives the concept that sales are a part of every day life, regardless of “category of employment.”
“There are very few occupations where you are not influencing someone — or the flip side, de-motivating them — to take action,” he says.
Darmstetter, CEO of Sales by 5, a local sales training and motivational firm, cites a recent post on his blog about how one of his best closings of late was the sale he made to his wife, convincing her to agree that the family would embark upon an RV adventure.
“My options were to sell them (my family) or let them sell themselves,” he says. “I have learned a few lessons in my life, and one is selling an experience that I cannot promise or guarantee is a great way to un-sell anything in the future. I then showed the ride (my only promise) and let them sell the rest to themselves.”
Result? Sold.
Darmstetter’s nuggets of wisdom have become much sought-after, thanks to Sales by 5’s new blog rolled out earlier this year.
“We’ve had huge response. It’s now being prescribed by many CEOs who read it to their employees,” he says. “… We’re surprised and pleased that the blog site has developed such a widespread appeal.”
Darmstetter is even considering developing a book based on his insights.
“Thanks to the track back (hits from links to other sites) we can easily see who’s been referencing us and what is driving these patterns of traffic,” Darmstetter says. “It lets us know what we’re doing right and how we can improve, not just ourselves, but our clients and their objectives.”
