Departing Thoughts from Bobby, The Intern

This was an email that our phenomenal intern, Bobby Freeman, wrote to Erik and us on his last day of service at Salesby5.  He was an amazing asset and we’d be fortunate to have him back.  Bobbs, you are missed.

This summer has been an inspiration to me, and I feel like you and the rest of the Salesby5 team have helped me grow on so many levels. It is amazing the incredible cast of team members you have assembled, and I feel blessed to have been a part of it, even for only a summer. This summer I learned that work and fun can co-exist, and that you can actually be more productive because of it. It is difficult for me to explain to others, and for them to simply understand that I enjoyed working and going to work every day. I can’t remember a day in the office when I was counting the minutes until I could leave, but rather was so confused by how it was 6:30 and I was still in the office. It is an odd feeling to be packing my stuff up and realizing that I will no longer be working for Salesby5. While I know that graduate school is the next step for me, it doesn’t make it any easier to leave a great and dramatically different company.

My Last Week in the Office Thoughts:

  • I never realized every shirt I own is a shade of blue, maybe I should test the waters.
  • Everyone is so happy because they love what they are doing here, and so do I.
  • Grad School is going to be really boring after this!
  • How does Nan know all this stuff?
  • Erik could sell an Eskimo a snow cone if he got him on a conference call.
  • It’s 4:30 in the morning and I am downloading the new Viigo Beta 3.0.111 for my BlackBerry. Has my life become an RSS Feed?
  • I’m really going to miss these guys

Thanks Bobby! You inspired us too! It’s amazing to see how much you can impact someone’s life over the course of only two months.  Don’t be afraid to pull people in and let them become a part of your team, even if only for a short time.  Remarkable people always leave a place better than they found it.

Why Tradeshows Are Crucial…

We go to numerous tradeshows and conferences annually. We sometimes forget what it’s all about before we get there, because we get excited about the speakers and the new things to see.  Then we remember, it’s about the relationships.  Let me be more clear -  IT’S ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIPS.  It’s not about the schwag, new gadgets, ideas, products, services - that’s salt and pepper.  The people you connect with and whom you provide value to is the most important thing.  Take the time to invest in the most important thing when you go, the people.  Everything else will take care of itself.

My new friends from Viigo and I.  Viigo is an excellent (free!) mobile application that lets you read our blog and other sites on your BlackBerry or Windows Mobile device.  Download it now!

How Are You Branding Yourself?

We all have a personal brand. Using you natural strengths is the best branding message you can convey!

I love it when I meet people and they own a BlackBerry. I never let them walk away without offering to install Viigo (a fantastic Mobile RSS reader), Google Maps and Beyond 411. Typically, they are shocked that these amazing applications are free. I’ve often received emails a few days later thanking me! I don’t charge for this service, it’s a free prize inside for knowing Salesby5. It brands me and our company as tech-savvy and high value.

The value I give is not forced, it is something I must do. It’s received as a gift, but really it is my gift to be able to share. What are you doing to share your strengths, your brand, your value?

Tell us in the comments what you do to gain mindshare as high value.

We recently made a shift over to feedburner to share our blogs with all of our readers.  This change makes it easier and more reliable for you to get the content you’re looking for.  So if you are no longer seeing the new blog posts in your choice of readers (ie Google Reader, Viigo, etc), please delete and re-add us by clicking Subscribe, Bookmark, or Viigo on the right sidebar.  We’re very sorry for any inconvenience, but we look forward to giving you a better browsing experience.
